Workshop Description

The HeART of the Artist: Finding Your Purpose (3 Hours):
If Gandhi had it right and "Your life is your message", what are you saying, intentionally and unintentionally, with your life...with your art? What is the unique contribution that you have to offer the world based on who you are and your life experiences thus far? How might your gifts and talents be best utilized to meet a need that you perceive in the world? Come together with others to engage these questions of the heart and find a greater sense of direction from which to create from.

Together, Tamyra Freeman and Sue Dixon have more than fifty years of experience leading groups through interactive learning experiences. Tamyra is a free lance facilitator whose work ranges from developing learning sessions for more than 6500 Starbucks managers to designing and guiding retreats for teachers in Singapore to supporting national and local nonprofit boards with their strategic/developmental planning. Sue is an early childhood speech language pathologist and a university-based writer and trainer for Indiana University's Indiana Institute on Disability and Community. Okay, those are the day jobs. Perhaps you have one of those too? In addition to using their creativity to help others "find their voice", these two passionate women also create art for their own pleasure through knitting, jewelry-making, glass-fusing, sewing, and gardening.

Join Sue and Tamyra for one, two, or all three of the programs in their HeART of the Artist series. In these min-retreats, you will have an opportunity to stop, step back, and discover what matters most to you in your life...and in your art. All three sessions are "inner work" focused, as opposed to either technique or project oriented. You will be invited to practice fundamentals of the "artist's way": silent reflection, soul searching conversation, and artistic/self expression. In the safe space we will create together, art is truly about self expression; you may choose to build a kinetic sculpture from wire and an eclectic mix of other materials to represent what you discover about yourself! All courses in this series are appropriate for aspiring artists as well as well as those who are making a living from their art. While each of the retreats has a theme of its own and is complete in itself, the courses, if taken together, are cumulative and potentially transformational.
