"Charmed Hearts" Recycled Metal Heart Charm Bracelet

Workshop Description
Create a wonderfully unique and fun bracelet FULL of colorful heart charms fabricated from recycled tin cans! You will learn basic metalsmithing skills, including shaping and filing metals, riveting and eyelet setting. Plus you'll learn easy and quick techniques to turn jump rings you can purchase at any jewelry supply store into a one-of-a-kind bracelet! No experience necessary.
Supply list for students
- 1 pair of Joyce Chen Kitchen Scissors
- 2 pairs of chain nose pliers
- Flat file
- Mini anvil or steel block
- Riveting hammer or small ball pein hammer
- Wire cutters (flush cut is preferable but not required)
- Center punch
- Safety glasses
Kit Fee: $32
Instructor will supply:
- Drill Bits
- Acrylic Sealer
- Wet/Dry sandpaper
- Shared use of 2 flex shaft drills
- Shared use of various tools (metal stamps, hammers, etc.)
- Mini eyelet setters for in-class use
- Ring clamps for in-class use
- Blackening agents
- Printed paper templates
- Other consumables
Optional:
- A flex-shaft, Dremel or other rotary tool if you have one, or a hand drill
- #55 drill bits
- Set of inexpensive needle files
- Any steel metal stamps you may have to pattern your rings with
- If you have old tea tins, candy tins, cookie tins or old steel beer cans, in specific colors that you love, feel free to bring them for your use. Please note that the soda and beer cans we use today are too thin and not suitable
Student Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate (no experience necessary)
